Overview
Anqing, also named “Yicheng”, is located in south Anhui Province and the northern bank at the lower reaches of Yangtze River. It crosses the river from Chizhou and Tongling to the east; borders upon Jiujiang of Jiangxi Province to the south, Huanggang of Hubei Province to the west and Liuan and Chaohu to the north; governs one city, seven counties and three districts. So, it is the important transportation hub of southwestern Anhui and east China with the reputation of “the throat of Yangtze River flowing thousands of miles and the first prefecture on the border shared by Wu and Chu empires”.
The name of "Anqing" first comes from the “Anqing Army” quartered here during the Shaoxing years of the Southern Song Dynasty. Anqing City was built in the tenth year of Jiading Period and became the capital of Anhui Province in the twenty-fifth year of Qianlong Period in the Qing Dynasty. From then on, it had always been the political, economic and cultural center of Anhui Province until the twenty-sixth year of Public China. What’s more, the name “Anhui” comes from the first characters of two prefectures, Anqing and Huizhou.
As the only good tourist city on the northern bank of Wanjiang flowing eight hundred miles, Anqing has lots of travel areas, such as Mr. Tian Zhu, Small Gushan Mountain, Fu Montain, Baiya Village, Dalong Mountain, Huating Lake, Miaodao Mountain, Erzu Buddhist Hall, Sanzu Temple and Yingjiang Temple etc. Especially, Mr. Tian Zhu, the nation-level scenic spot and historical site, entitled “Nan (south) Yue (high mountain)”by Hanwu Emperor, is famous in south China for its marvelous peaks, strange rocks, deep caves and beautiful springs. Besides the charming natural sights, Mr. Tian Zhu is also the cradle of Taoism with the reputation of “the fourteenth heavenly abode and fifty-seventh blessed spot”. Moreover, numerous amazing petroglyphs present the elite of calligraphy and literature of past dynasties.
