Dingxii Overview
Dingxi overview: Dingxi City is located in central Gansu province, 98 km east of Lanzhou, giving it the nickname the "eastern gateway". The Wei River, a tributary of the Yellow River flows through the district and provides it with the majority of its water. It was important in the development of some of China's earliest cultures, specifically along the Wei River, one of the Yellow River's biggest tributaries. Numerous Neolithic sites from various cultures are found throughout the area. It has 1 urban district, 6 counties, and 119 towns with a total population of 2,960,000 and a total area of 20,300 square kilometers.
With a long history and outstanding location, it is an important source of civilization for the upper reaches of the Yellow River. There were famous Majiayao Culture, Qijia Culture, Siwa Culture and Xindian Culture here in the new Stone Age.
Agriculture and natural resource based industries are the key to Dingxi's economy. There are more than 300 different kinds of Chinese medicinal plants and herbs found in the area. Dingxi's Anding County is China's number one grower of yams. Zanthoxylum (also called Sichuan Pepper or prickly ash fruit), walnuts, wild apricots, and other fruit are some of Dingxi's famous dried exports.
As the major town for the Silk Road since ancient times, it is not only the must-pass way to new Eurasian Continental Bridge but also the east gateway of Lanzhou city , the capital of Gansu Province.
It is only 98 kilometers from the Lanzhou city and crossed by the Longhai Railway and National Highway 310, 312, 212, 316 . Especially in the recent years, the establishments of the 2nd line of Baolan Railway , Landing and Lanlin Expressways make the advantage of Dingxi city more highlighted as a door of Lanzhou city .
Dingxi boasts rich natural resources and good prospects of exploitation. The soil and climate here suits the growth of potatoes and traditional Chinese medicine. The traditional Chinese medicine which has been found out amounts to over 300 species, of which includes world famous Mingui and Dangshen.
Dingxi climate & weather: Dingxi is semi-arid, with little precipitation. Even though sunlight here can be intense, temperatures are generally cool. The surrounding terrain is mostly loess hills and ravines in the north and highlands in the south. The annual average temperature maintains around 5.6 °C -7.6° C.
Language in Dingxi: Dingxi dialects is a branch of northern dialect, it is not difficult for mandarin speakers to understand.
