Overview
Changzhou is ancient cultural city with a written history of more than 2500 years (it was also called “Dragon City” in the history) and also an emergent economically developed industrial city brimming with modern scent. Changzhou now exercises jurisdiction over the two prefecture-level cities of Jintan and Liyang and the five administrative areas of Wujin, Xinbei, Tianning, Zhonglou and Qishuyan. The whole city has a total area of 4375 square kilometers and a total population of 3432400 people, of which non-farming population is 1,578,200.
Changzhou is located in the beautiful and prosperous Yangtze River golden triangle area, faces the two large cities of Shanghai and Nanjing in the equal distance, joins Suzhou and Wuxi into one and forms the Su-Xi-Chang metropolis circle. Changzhou boasts quite superior geographical circumstances and convenient water, land and air traffic conditions. The urban areas are close to the Yangtze River in the north and borders on the Taihu Lake in the south. The Huning railway, the Huning highway, the national highway 312, and the Jing-Hang Grand Canal run through the city. The whole city is crisscrossed by water system, which is connected to the Yangtze River and the sea. The Changzhou Harbor along the Yangtze River as the national first-class open port has an annual goods throughput of more than one million tons. The Changzhou Station of Civil Aviation has Flights to and fro more than twenty large and medium-sized cities, such as Beijing, Guangzhou, Dalian, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Haikou and Xi’an, etc.
Changzhou is one of “the top fifty Chinese cities with strong comprehensive strength” and “the top forty Chinese cities with excellent investment environment”. It is also fixed as one of the first national sustainable and ring module experiment site cities. Through the persistent efforts of the whole city, Changzhou City is named as the national hygiene city and has passed the national inspection and acceptance of the environment protection model city. Jintan and Liyang are simultaneously named as the national hygiene cities. The ecological environment has been further improved and won the “Chinese human settlement environment model prize”.
