As the largest city in northern Jiangsu, Xuzhou Prefecture has jurisdiction over four counties of Feng Xian, Peixian, Tongshan, Suining, two cities of Pizhou and Xinyi, and five districts of Gulou, Yunlong, Jiawang, Quanshan and Jiuli. Xuzhou Prefecture has jurisdiction over four counties of Fengxian, Peixian, Tongshan, Suining, two county-class cities of Pizhou and Xinyi, and five districts of Gulou, Yunlong, Jiawang, Quanshan and Jiuli. It covers an area of 11,258 square kilometers with the total population of about 9.08 million people. And there’re 1.6 million urban residents living in urban area which covers 963 square kilometers. The terrain of Xuzhou is characterized by vast plains which are alternated with hilly lands and uplands and the average altitude of this region is about 19-45 meters above sea-level. Yi River, Shu River, the Grand Canal and the ancient course of Huanghe River all flow through the city with Luoma Lake and Weishang Lake lying about on the south and north sides of the city.
With 4000 years splendid culture, Xuzhou boasts a great number of culture heritages and historical Sights which are just like the bright jewels decorated on the picture scroll of history. Among all these attractions, the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Han Dynasty, Han Tombs and Stone Sculptures of Han Dynasty are the most splendid ones as they are full of artistic and archeological values and embody the fantastic creativity and wisdoms of our ancestors.
