Tengzhou is located on the north latitude 34。50 ' to 35。17 ', the east longitude 116。48 ' to 117。23 ', neighbors the Yimeng mountainous area to the east, near Xuecheng District of Zaozhuang to the south, close to the Weishan lake and Weishan County to the west and it borders on the hometown of Confucius Zoucheng City, also home town of Mencius. Tengzhou extends 45 kilometers wide from east to west, 46 kilometers long from north to south. The total population of Tengzhou is 1.66 million. So it is a county with the largest population in Shandong Province as a county-level city. It governs 21 towns (streets) and 1291 natural villages. Its total area is 1485 square kilometers, the largest one as a county-level city in Shandong Province.Tengzhou's urban planning area is 169.5 square kilometers. Tengzhou is located in the southern part of Shandong Province, China, the word “Teng”of Tengzhou means the spring water spouting up itself from ground. Teng was set up as a county very early in Qin Dynasty. In March, 1988, being authorized by the State Council, Teng County was changed into Tengzhou city.
