Weicheng district, previously known as Weixian, is located in the middle of Shandong peninsular. It is the center district of Weifang, the World Kite Capital. Covering an area of 272 square kilometers and with a population of 368,000, Weicheng district has 6 sub-district offices and 2 precincts under its jurisdiction.

Weicheng district is located in the center of urban Weifang. Jiaoji railway and Jiqing Expressway traverse from east to west; national and provincial highways as well as urban roads extend in all directions. It is 50km away from Weifang Port to the north, 5km away from Weifang Airport to the south, 100km away from Qingdao Liuting International Airport to the east, and 150km away from Jinan Yaoqiang International Airport to the west. The distances between Weicheng district and Qingdao Port, Yantai Port and Rizhao Port are all within 200km.

Weicheng is a provincial-level historical and cultural district. A group of celebrities and splendid officials once worked or lived here, such as Kongrong, one of the seven greatest litterateurs of Jian`an Period, and Zheng Banqiao, Chen Jieqi in Qing dynasty. Guo Weiqu is a famous contemporary educator, fine arts theoretician and master of Chinese painting. The newly built Guo Weiqu Art Gallery will present the splendor of his art. Integrated with the garden architecture art from the south and north China, combined with architecture styles of the Ming and Qing dynasty, the Shihu Garden is a classical private garden in north China, which tops the 9 famous gardens of Weixian in Qing dynasty, and is now a state-level cultural heritage site. Chenghuang Temple and Wanyin Building, with well preserved original state, are provincial-level cultural heritage sites. Craftwork like kites, archaized bronze wares, and cloth toys are of exquisite workmanship and enjoy reputation at home and abroad. Fuyan Mountain, the International Kite-Flying Field, Chaoyang Temple, Lutai Academy for Classic Learning and Tayuan Forest Park constitute the biggest eco-tourism area in urban Weifang. Since 1984, 24 sessions of Weifang International Kite Festival have been held here consecutively.

Weicheng district is an import material contributing place in Shandong province. The service industry has seen a good tendency. In recent years, infrastructure of Weicheng has been greatly improved.
