Xinzheng is located in the center of Henan province and it is subordinate to Zhengzhou. It is between 34.16 to 34.39 degrees north latitude and 113.30 to 113.54 degrees east longitude. To the north, it is Zhengzhou city while Zhongmou and Weishi county are to the east of Xinzheng. Changge and Yuzhou are the cities to the south of it while Xinmi city is its western neighbor. The total area is 873 square kilometers. It is 42 kilometers from north to south and 36 kilometers from east to west. The urban area is 15.7 square kilometers with DaYanzhuang village in the east, bordering Weishi county. Xiatuo village of Lihe town is in the south of Xinzheng, bordering Changge city. The south-west part of the city is YueKoupu village of GuanYinsi town with Yuzhou city as the neighbor. SunJiahe village of Xindian town is in the west with Xinmin city as the neighbor. Cuitong village of Longhu town lies in the north of the city and is close to the suburb of Zhengzhou. ChunShuzhang village of Longwang town is located in the north-east of the city, bordering Zhongmou county.

Xinzheng is one of ancient capitals of China and there are many historical sites and now it is an excellent tourism city.

In ancient times, Xinzheng was called ”Youxiong” and the Yellow Emperor set the capital here. At the time of “Di Zhi”, it was the country of Zhurong’s regime. During the time of “West Zhou” dynasty, Xinzheng was Kuai country. In 770 B.C, the Zheng country moved its capital from Xianlin to the “QinYu Water” area of Xinzheng, and the country name is still Zheng. Zheng country lasted for 395 years and later was destroyed by Marquis Han Ai. Marquis Han Ai moved the capital from Yanqu to Zheng city which lasted for 145 years. When the Han people set the capital here, the Zheng prefecture was established to administrate the area. In the year 221, the first Emperor Qin united six countries and imposed the system of prefectures. In order to make a difference between the Zheng county of Shanxi province and that of Henan province, the Zheng county in Henan was later named Xinzheng county which has lasted for more than one thousand years.

In Xia and Shang dynasty, Xinzheng belonged to Yu state. During the Spring and Autumn Period , Xinzheng belonged to Zheng country and it is the capital.

During the War Period of China, Xinzheng belonged to Han country. Han still made Xinzheng as its capital after it destroyed Zheng.

Xinzheng has a rich reserve of various kinds of mineral resources. At present, 12 kinds of minerals have been discovered and they scattered in 37 sites. The solid minerals in this area are mainly sedimentary minerals including coal, clay mineral, limestone, silica and red silica. There are also reserves of mineral water and subterranean heat. The most important mineral reserve in Xinzheng is coal and the others are cement deposit, red silica, silica and dolomite. The advantageous mineral in Xinzheng is coal and the estimated reserve is 1.3461 billion tons.
