Taixing, meaning “flourishing along with Taizhou”, is currently a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Taizhou Prefecture City. Situated in the north of Yangtze River, Taixing is in the central part of Jiangsu. The city borders Rugao on the east, Qingjiang on the south, and Jiangyan on the north. Across the Yangtze River, the city faces other two neighbours, Yangzhong City and Wujin District of Changzhou. The city has a land mass of 1252 square kilometres, including 230 square kilometres of water surface area, occupying near one fifth of its total land.

Taixing has a convenient transportation network. The city is connected to its towns and townships under its jurisdiction or neighbors cities by three expressways and Xinchang (Xinyi under Xuzhou’s jurisdiction-Changxing of Zhejiang province). It is less than 2 hrs of driving distance to Nanjing Lukuo Internaition Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, 1 hr to either Changzhou or Wuxi.

Taixing has a jurisdiction over 22 towns and an economic development zone. The municipal government is stationed in the Town of Taixing.

Firstly established in 937 A.D in the Tang Dynasty, Taixing was ever administered under the jurisdiction of either Yangzhou or Taizhou, lasting for more than a century.

Under influences of Yangtze River and the Grand Canal, the city has a subtropical monsoon climate with humid and changeable wind. The raining season is usually from the middle of June to July. Average temperature in July of the summer is around 28ºC and 2ºC in January of the winter.

Taixing, producing 20% of violin of the globe production, has a fast expansion in its economy. The establishment of the national industrial park, the Taixing Fine Chemical Engineering Development zone, brings the city the numerous new investment projects.

Taixing was traditionally considered as an agricultural land but the significance of the sector has been shrinking over years. Now farm income only occupies about 10 per cent of the city’s total GDP. The primary agricultural products include rice, wheat, oil seed, livestock, cocoon and economic forest plantation.

Industrial capability is drastically enhanced in the past two decades and new investment projects continue pouring in. Main industrial sectors include chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textile, etc. Civic construction has earned the city a big name and provide locals thousands of job opportunities. The city was listed in China 100 Top Cities with its comprehensive economic strength five times.

Taixing environment and ecosystem are under protected, specifically for its water resource. Pollution from the city's chemical industrial park is substantial, in which the polluters drain their wastes directly into the Yangtze River. The city is making its effort to maintain its ecological environment and forest. Many facilities and regulations have been set up in heavy chemistry zones and industrial areas to monitor their impact to environment and water.
