Wafangdian City is located in the mid-west of Liaodong Peninsula, with a total area of 3794km2, and a total population of 1,030,000. It is 102 km from Dalian in the south and 292km from Shenyang in the north. Wafangdian was approved as a city (town-class-city) in 1985 from a town, the total planned area of the city increased to 1200 sq km from 162 sq. km.

By the supernormal and leapfrog-style development, Wafangdian has become a leading town among the counties in Northeast of China. And it has been ranked as No.18 in the evaluation of the Tenth County-class Basic Economic Competition of the State, this rank is the first in Northeast of China. Wafangdian is also the first “National Model City in Environmental Protection” and “National Health City” in Northeast of China.

Wafangdian City has the convenient traffic by the land, the sea and the air, and the Harbin-Dalian Railway, the Shenyang-Dalian Expressway, the Heilongjiang-Dalian Highway and the Harbin-Dalian Passenger High-speed Railway (under construction), they all traverse within its boundaries from the north to the south .And the Cheng-Ba Highway (from Chengzitan Town of Pulanddian City–Bachagou of the Dalian Changxingdao Port Industrial Zone) to the Dalian Changxingdao Port Industry Zone goes through the area from the east to the west. The Binhai(Coastal) Road which is the important link in the Liaoning Costal Economic Belt crosses the whole area of Wafangdian City. Wafangdian City also has many seaports, such as the Changxingdao Port, the Songmudao Port, the Jiangjunshi Port and the Taipingwan Port(under construction) which are the important parts of the Northeast Asian Shipping Centre. It is 90 km from the Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport.

Wafangdian City is also an important tourism city in Liaoning Province with good fame for tourism, where there are the beautiful natural scenes, the attractive beaches, the hot springs and the skiing etc. Wafangdian City has the developed agriculture. It is also the national model bases of “Agricultural Products Processing”, “Livestock and Poultry” and “Fruits processing”. Wafangdian adjoins the coastline of 461 km, which is the second longest among the county-class-cities of the country.

Wafangdian has long enjoyed the name of important industrial city in the south of Liaoning Province, which has a solid industrial foundation. It is the cradle of Chinese bearing industry, named as “Capital of Bearing”, and ranked as one of “the 50 Top Enterprise Clusters of China. The Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant is situated here, which is an important energy project approved by the State during the 11th Five-year Planning. It can not only complete industry kind but also supply enough energy for city developing.

The GDP of city is RMB51.1 billion in 2009; and the total finance income is RMB5.05 billion; and all saving deposits including RMB and foreign currency reach RMB25.93 billion.
