Haining Overview
Haining is located on the southern tip of the Yangtze River Delta. With Shanghai some 100 km away to the east, Haining in northern Zhejiang Province is washed by the Qiantangjiang River in the south and connects with Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province, in the west. Haining has a land area of 731 square km. Criss-crossed by rivers, Haining has a population of 640,000 and exercises jurisdiction over eight towns and four street communities. It is also home to three provincial-level economic development areas in Haining.
Enjoying the sub-tropical monsoon climate, Haining has four distinct seasons and enjoy 2,002.9 hours of sunshine a year. Its temperature averages 15.9 degrees Centigrade and its annual precipitation 1,178 mm. Frost-free period lasts 233.5 days a year.
set up in 1994, the Haining China Leather Town has grown into a special leather market with the largest size and greatest influence in China. It has won such honorary titles as “Nationally Civilized Market”, “Zhejiang Provincial Key Market”, “One of the 10,000 Markets Free From Fake and Shoddy Goods in 100 Cities in Zhejiang Province”, “Five-Star Civilized and Orderly Market in Zhejiang Province”, and “National AAAA Tourism Scenic Spot.
Haining has a good industrial base involving more than 100 types in 30 categories, and it has distinctive advantages in terms of a regional characteristic economy. Its regional characteristic sectors have prospered, such as leather, household textiles, warp knitting, electronic products, and chemical industry (pharmaceuticals), and their influence and competitive edge have been further enhanced domestically and internationally. In 2007 the industrial added value reached 16.856 billion Yuan; industries above designated size realized output value of 60 billion Yuan. In the city there are six nationally famous-brands products, 13 well-known brands, and five listed corporations.
