Overview

Located in the mid-north part of Hunan Province, Yiyang city stretches across the lower reaches of Zishui River and Yuaanhuang River, with the Xuefeng Mountain Extension stands behind her. The city has an area of 12133sq km and a population of 4.36million. It was reestablished as Yiyang Municipality at county level in Mar. 7th 1994 upon the approval of the State Council. The new Yiyang currently has jurisdiction over Yuanjiang city, Nan County, Peach Blossom River County, Anhua County, and newly established Ziyang District and Heshan District.

Yiyang, boosting convenient geographic transportation, is the commodity distribution center, through which Zishui River flows through and converges with Dongting Lake to the rivers and seas. Crisscrossed roads lie here as state line 319 and Changsha-Changde high class highway under construction traversing from the east to the west, Hunan- Guizhou Railway passing through and the crossing of Changsha-Shimen Railway and Luoyang-Kanjiang Railway under construction.

Yiyang is called 'Treasure Yiyang' for renowned as “Land of Milk and Honey”, “Hometown of Nonferrous Metals”, ‘Hometown of Bamboo Wares’ thanks to its abundant natural resources. It is the major base of agricultural products in Hunan Province and even in China.

Numerous historic and cultural relics are preserved here, of which 42 are under protection sites at Provincial and county-level, 23 are of cultural relics sites with over 500 ancient tombs. Main tourist attractions of historical and cultural value include Peigong Pavilion, Qixia Temple, and White Dew Temple. In addition, many sites related to Three-Kingdom can also be found here, like the distinguished Sharpen Sword Pavilion and Lusu Bank (named after Lusu, a famous character in Three Kingdom Period) where GuangYu (a famous general in Three Kingdom Period) attended enemies appointments alone.
