Overview
Shangqiu lies in eastern part of Henan Province and the conjunction of Henan, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Anhui provinces. It covers an area of 10704 square kilometers with a total population of 8.04 million.
Shangqiu is located in the Huang Huai Hai Plain. Being richly endowed by the nature, it enjoys a moderate climate and abundance of produce. It is prosperous in farming, forestry, animal husbandry, sideline production, and fishery. It is the national famous production base of agricultural and sideline product. Also, it is the coal energy base and a rising industrial city. With the coal reserves of 10 billion tons, the Yongxia Coal Field is regarded as one of the six bases of smokeless coal of China.
Places of interests in Shangqiu scatter all over the city like stars in the sky. Here are places of interest like the Sui Imperial Mausoleum which is the lead of the three Imperial Mausoleums in China, the Wenya Terrace which is for cherishing the memory of Confucian, the Qinglin Terrace where a love tragedy occurred, the Tomb of Zhuangzi (the great master of Taoism), the picturesque Sanlin Terrace, the home and abroad well-known Mang Mountain Cluster of Sepulchers, the Temple of Hua Mulan (the heroic woman in ancient China), the Ruguan Study of Yan Zhenqing (a great calligraphist in ancient China ), the Baiyun Temple which is one of the four famous ancient Buddhist temples in the Central Plains, the Yingtian Academy where Fan Zhongyan studied, the Aquatic Great Wall along the Yellow River dam built in Ming and Qing Dynasty, the world’s wonder “ the Eight Trigrams Citadel”, the Zhuanghui Hall where Hou Fangyu lived, the world-famous Relics of Liang Garden, the spectacle in the pawpaw garden, the villas on the westward slope, the Nanyuan scenes, the Shengan forest belt, the attractive Yellow River beaten path, the age-old trees which are over two thousand years in Liang Garden, the tree on which Zhang Fei (a hero in the Three Kingdoms period)and Zhao Kuangyin (the first king of the Northern Song Dynasty1127 -1276AD) tethered their horse.
