Overview

Jiaozuo city lies in the northwest of Hennan Province, China. Jiaozuo has a long history with rich cultural details. Far back to the Shang Dynasty (2070 B.C. - 1600 B.C.), there were people dwelling there. It was called Shanyang and Huaizhou in the ancient times. Prefecture of Huaiqing was established here in Ming (1368 A.D. - 1644 A.D.) and Qing (1616 A.D.-1911 A.D.) Dynasties. The city was established in 1956. It is the native place of many historic figures, such as Sima yi, Han Yu, Zhu Zaiyu, Xu Heng and so on; the birthplace of Taijiquan, which is very popular and widely spread at home and abroad; the place of the noted “Zhulin Seven Sages” who lived a reclusive life in Chinese History; and the place where the Han Xian Emperor, Liu Xie (190A.D. - 220A.D.), was once banished. Cultural relics and historic sites, such as the Site of Prefecture Capital, the Sansheng Tower in Tianning Temple, Jiaying Temple, the Tower in Miaole Temple, Cining Temple, and the Tomb of Zhu Zaiyu, etc, were ratified as the national prevention units in 2001.

Jiaozuo is rich in mineral resources, and is among the few places abundant in natural resources in the Mid-west and the North China. There are over 20 types of minerals, such as coal, aluminum alumina, pyrite, and limestone, etc, and the mineral resource is rich. Jiaozuo has plenty of tourist attractions, and the natural spots are fairly beautiful and eye-catching. The south foot of Taihang Mountain extends over one hundred kilometers into Jiaozuo. With rivers around it, it looks grand and elegant as well. Thus, it is of unique characters. In February 13, 2004, Yuntai Mountain in Jiaozuo was named as the World Geological Park by UNESCO. The farming condition there is relatively good, and Jiaozuo is one of the three major high yield grain areas of China. Its “four major native medicines”---- Chinese yam, digitalis, achyranthes and chrysanthemum are famous at home and abroad. It is located in the intersection point of Henan Province and Shanxi Province, and is the important transportation line for transiting coal from Shanxi Province to the south part of China. Its highway transportation is convenient and developed.
