Yiwu is located in central Zhejiang Province, 108 kilometers away from the provincial capital Hangzhou. The city enjoys a convenient and exclusive geographic position: linking Guangdong Province and Fujian Province in the south, connecting the hinterland of the Yangtze River in the west, bordering Shanghai, China’s largest city and facing the Pacific golden channel in the east.

Districts population: With 1,105 square meters of administrative region area, Yiwu City governed 7 street offices, 6 organic towns as well as their 716 subordinated administrative villages, 61 neighborhood committees (committees developing from villages) and 36 urban communities (neighborhood committees).By the end of 2010, the population with local census registers were 740 thousand with 1.43 million foreign constructers long living in Yiwu and more than 200 thousand floating people every day.

China Yiwu International Commodity City mainly consists of three large-scale wholesale markets, namely the International Trade City, Huangyuan Market and Binwang Market, in which more than 40 million species of small commodities are available for consumers at home and abroad. It has been hailed as the world’s largest professional market by the United Nations, the World Bank and other international organizations. At the same time, Yiwu is known as the “land of civility” because people of talent have come forth in large numbers in its local history. Besides, many beauty spots and places of historical interest spread in the city. Among them, the most famous are Shuanglin Iron Tower built in Post Zhou Dynasty (952), Guyue Bridge constructed in the Song Dynasty (1213), and the Huangshan Octahedron Hall completed during the period of Jia Qing Emperor (Jia Qing is the fifth emperor of Qing Dynasty.), as well as the Ming and Qing Tombs.

History: Yiwu located at the middle part of Zhejiang Province with a long history; in the 25th year of Qin Shi Huang (222 B.C.), Wushang County, subordinated to Huiqi Prefecture, was established. As a result, Yiwu was one of most ancient counties (cities) in Zhejiang Province. In 1988, Yiwu County was revoked, and Yiwu City (the county-level city) was established. With the approval of the State Council, Yiwu became the international trade comprehensive reform pilot in 2011.

The total output value of Yiwu district was RMB 61.4 billion with an increase of 11.5% year on year and RMB 83,539 Yuan per capita.
General budget revenue in finance was RMB 7.7 billion, among which local budgeted revenue was RMB 4.28 billion with the respective increases of 8.7% and 10.7% year on year.

Rational industrial structure: In 2010, the proportion of three main industries in Yiwu was 2.8∶43.2∶54.0, among which the tertiary industry achieves its added value RMB 33.14 billion with an increase of 12.7%. During the 11th Five-Year Plan, its GDP proportion of service industry had cumulatively increased by 3.1%.

Life of the residents: With the budget financial expenses tilting to the livelihood of the people, the total expenditure on social security, medical treatment and public health, environment protection, rural and urban community affairs was RMB 980 million with an increase of 24.8 %. The total volume of retail sales of consumption goods had reached RMB 29.04 billion with an increase of 18.9% year on year; and the savings deposit of the urban and rural residents was RMB 83.6 billion. The net per capital income of rural residents was RMB 14775 with an increase of 14.5%; and the urban per capita disposable income was RMB 35220 with an increase of 14.2%. The Engel coefficient of the urban families was 31.9%; and that of the rural families was 34.1%. The number of car ownership in each 100 households was 43.3 cars.
