As the provincial seat, Changchun is the political, economic, cultural and commercial center of Jilin Province. It is an important base for automobile industry and agricultural product processing industry of China, as well as a city of science, education, culture and trade. With the automobile, new high-tech, petroleum and chemical and food processing as its pillar industries, Changchun has formed and industrial system of solid foundation and full categories. In 2008, Changchun’s GDP reached RMB 258.8 billion, with a per capita GDP of RMB 21,335.72.

Situated in the middle of the Songliao plain, Changchun is an open metropolis, a domestically and globally well-known city of automobile, movie, science, technology and culture, and forest. As a famous city of science, technology and culture in China, Changchun is also one of the rare areas of intellectual concentrations in the country. It also served as the cradle of New China’s automobile industry, optical electronic technology, biotechnology and application chemistry.
