In accordance with the stipulation of Ministry of Civil Affairs ,the top watchdog of street signs , the only acceptable form of romanized name is its pinyin. 建设北路, should be romanized as : Jianse BeiLu (Pinyin Form 1), or Jianse Bei Lu (Pinyin Form 2), or Jian Se Bei Lu (Pinyin Form 3). However, some cities don't follow this rule rigidly. They attemp to translate the Chinese name into English in order to offer easier recognition for foreigners, which is favored by some government departments , especially the Tourism Bureau. Thus, 建设北路, should be romanized as : Jianse North Road (English Form 1), or Construction North Road(English Form 2) |
Most street signs are romanized in Pinyin Form 1 and English Form 1.
