Rudong County, a county under the jurisdiction of Nantong, is located in the east coast of Jiangsu and has a coastline of 92 kilometers.
Rudong is located in the east coast of Jiangsu and the north part of Yangtze River Delta. It borders Rugao in the west, Hai’an in the northwest and Tongzhou in the south. The county flanks the East China Sea on its east.

Rudong is located in the northern Jiangsu Plain and its eastern territory continues expanding because the new land keeps forming due to the deposit of sands that Yangtze River has been bringing year after year. Yangkou Port is an ocean-orientated deep water port and has been designated as a potential major port in the eastern coast of China in the coming years.

The county has a humid subtropical climate influenced by oceanic wind and has distinct four seasons. The annual average temperature is 15ºC and has an abundant precipitation annually. As a coast city, Rudong has enormous area of beaches and wetland and an oceanic surface of more than 17,000 hectares.

Rudong is considered a coastal county in Jiangsu, which has a plenty of fishery and oceanic surface area, combined with its agricultural sector. Its important agricultural produces include cotton, rice, cocoon, corona oil, etc. Sufficient supplies and produces of sea foods and veges harvested from oceanic water and its shadow beaches have given the county a remarkable wealth.

The economic expansion over years has added numerous new sectors to the county’s industry, including texture, biomedical, mechanic and electronic industries. The fishing industry relies on the East China Sea and even wider Pacific Ocean. The fast development of Yangkou Port would further enhance the county’s oceanic transportation capability. The city has been ranked at 86th on the list of China’s Top 100 Counties (county-level cities) for its comprehensive economic strength.

Rudong has established two industrial zones, Rudong Economic Development Zone and Yangkou Port Development Zone, to attract more investment funding. The Rudong Yangkou Port is becoming the most prestigious port in the East China Sea in the recent years. In 2007 Singapore RGM International signed an agreement with the city to invest $1.33 billion USD in total for a renovation project for the port.

Rudong environment is still in a good shape as its limited industrialization has not yet caused obvious ecological damage. The local municipal government has been putting stiff environmental rules into practice over years and has spent substantial funds to protect its environment. The city has been honored as one of the green cities in China.

Dubbed a "Pearl of Southern East Sea", Rudong is a land formed by the enoumous sand deposit brought by the Yangtze River in a history of more than 2,000 years. The Rudong Yangkou Port would be one of the most prestigious seaports in the East China Sea in the coming decade.
